Movie Review: Alice in Wonderland
Name: Alice in Wonderland
Director: Tim Burton
Starring: Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter
Rated: PG
For: fantasy action/violence involving scary images and situations, and for a smoking caterpillar.
Brief summary: Alice is back! Alice (MiaWasikowska) returns to her "dreamland", Wonderland and meets up with our favorite original characters from Lewis Carrol's beloved fairytale. This movie is much more like the book than the original Disney Cartoon and is also mostly based on "Through the Looking Glass", the sequel. This movie is more indepth then the original, and we get to learn more about our favorite characters, including the Mad Hatter (played wonderfully by Johnny Depp) and the Red Queen (Helena Bonham Carter).
Age level: Eleven and Up
Cautions: Violence, some gory moments.
If you like this movie, you might also like . . . Edward Scissorhands
Personal Opinion: Wow! Just... wow! What great effects, casting, and just overall a great movie! So far, one of my favorites of 2010 (Tied with How To Train Your Dragon... But that's another review!). The movie was much better than I expected, and I expected it to be great! I highly recommend this for all teenagers. But, you should be cautionary with younger kids. It's pretty violent and there are some gory moments.
Overall rating: 9/10
Random tidbit: Helena Bonham Carter is Tim Burton's wife, and that's why she's in basically all his movies!
